Qatar has strongly criticized the recent assaults by Houthi forces on civilian and economic sites located in southern Saudi Arabia. These attacks, which have affected areas such as Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children, and temporarily disrupted operations at some energy facilities. Expressing its solidarity with Saudi Arabia, Qatar has pledged support for any actions the Kingdom undertakes to safeguard its national security and sovereignty.
The condemnation was communicated by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani during a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Besides denouncing the attacks, the two officials explored broader regional issues, focusing on diplomatic measures to de-escalate tensions and bolster stability across the region.
Describing the assaults as a dangerous escalation, Doha asserted that these actions violate Saudi sovereignty and international law. Qatar has urged the international community to adopt a firmer stance against these aggressions and called for the enforcement of pertinent United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen and the security of the Red Sea.
In recent weeks, tensions have significantly risen between the Houthis and forces backed by Saudi Arabia, prompting fears of an expanded conflict. The Houthis maintain control over Sanaa and substantial sections of northern Yemen, and they have increased their offensive operations against Saudi Arabia and maritime traffic in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, Saudi-backed forces have been conducting military operations aimed at reclaiming Houthi-controlled territories.
