This new route, scheduled to commence in November 2026, will operate three times a week from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The effort is part of a collaboration with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority, aiming to strengthen connections between the two nations.
The introduction of this route is anticipated to significantly boost tourism, trade, and business interactions between Saudi Arabia and Japan. By providing an additional international gateway, the new service aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a vital global hub for tourism and logistics. This ambition is further supported by the National Aviation Strategy and the National Tourism Strategy, both of which aim to enhance Saudi Arabia’s role on the global stage.
In conjunction with the new flight path, the Saudi Tourism Authority is working closely with partners in Japan to craft travel packages that highlight Saudi Arabia as an appealing destination for Japanese travelers. This strategic initiative is expected to increase the number of visitors from Japan, further promoting cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries.
The prospective Riyadh-Tokyo flight connection is also set to facilitate travel in the lead-up to the AFC Asian Cup 2027, which Saudi Arabia will host. This development underscores the Kingdom’s dedication to supporting international travel for major sporting events, thereby enhancing its global connectivity and accessibility.
As part of its expansive growth strategy, Saudia currently operates flights to over 100 destinations globally and is in the process of expanding its fleet with the addition of 112 new aircraft. This expansion is a testament to the airline’s commitment to broadening its reach and improving its service offerings on the international front.
