Saudi-Serbian Economic Ties Bolster Energy, Technology, and Trade Sectors

In a move to strengthen their economic and diplomatic ties, Saudi Arabia and Serbia are seeking to enhance cooperation across several industries, including energy, technology, agriculture, food production, and trade. Discussions have recently been held between officials from both countries, focusing on potential collaborations in joint energy ventures, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural initiatives. These conversations also aimed at expanding the footprint of Serbian businesses within the Saudi market and increasing Saudi investments in Serbia.

During a significant meeting in Belgrade, an agreement was reached between Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric to eliminate visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement is anticipated to facilitate smoother official interactions between the two nations, easing the process for diplomatic exchanges.

The economic relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen substantial growth, with trade volumes reaching $121 million in 2025, a dramatic increase from the levels recorded in 2012. The upward trend continued into the first half of 2026, where trade figures hit $130.4 million, marking a 152% rise compared to the same period in the previous year. Such growth underscores the expanding economic partnership between the two countries.

Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are expected to serve as platforms for further investment, collaboration, and expertise sharing. Saudi Arabia has already committed to participating in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic advancements, cultural heritage, innovative projects, and investment possibilities.

Beyond trade and diplomacy, both nations are keen on exploring opportunities in science and technology. Serbia is also gearing up to participate prominently in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with plans to feature over 50 companies, reflecting the countries’ mutual interest in fostering greater cooperation in the food industry.
