Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the coalition, emphasized the inviolability of Mecca and Medina, referring to their protection as a “red line.” He warned that the coalition would take all necessary measures to deter any future threats from the Houthi rebels. The Houthi group, however, has denied any intentions of targeting Mecca. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the reported attack, reiterating its support for safeguarding Islamic holy sites.
