Saudi Arabia and France are exploring new avenues for collaboration in the library sector, focusing on areas such as digital preservation, knowledge exchange, and professional training. This initiative was at the forefront of discussions between Libraries Commission CEO Abdulrahman Al-Asem and French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Patrick Maisonnave during a meeting in Riyadh.

The discussions highlighted an executive program being developed between the Saudi Libraries Commission and the National Library of France. This program is set to cover crucial aspects such as the digitization of library materials, the exchange of electronic copies, and the development of digital collections. Additionally, it will provide training opportunities, facilitating the sharing of expertise between the two countries.

As part of their ongoing collaboration, both parties also reviewed joint projects planned for 2026, emphasizing the goal of expanding cultural and knowledge-based cooperation. This initiative seeks to strengthen ties and foster a deeper understanding between Saudi Arabia and France through shared library resources and initiatives.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance the accessibility and preservation of knowledge in both nations, leveraging technology and expertise in library sciences. By focusing on digital transformation and professional training, Saudi Arabia and France aim to set a precedent for international cooperation in the library sector.
